Exercise is an important part of the Paleo lifestyle and focuses on functional fitness and improving your health by working with your body, not against it. This is very much in line with the Paleo approach to food and lifestyle in general.

Just as conventional dietary wisdom has been focused on one thing for the past several decades, mainstream exercise theory seemed to follow the same route. Namely promoting the idea that the more hours you put in, the better with some people attending the gym at least once a day and putting themselves through painfully long cardio sessions, often resulting in injury. Modern science will now tell us that this is not the most efficient approach and nor does it provide the best results. Yet people continue to inflict this punishing routine on their bodies.

The Paleo approach to exercise emphasises structured exercise combined with brief, but intense, strength and resistance training workouts as opposed to extended sessions of cardio. It also encourages perpetual movement as opposed to long periods of inactivity.

Why should I exercise?

Anyone who has ever embarked on an exercise programme will tell you that the benefits of exercise are far reaching and are most likely way beyond their expectations when they started out. Let’s start with the main reason why people start an exercise programme. This is simply to lose weight and look better. Creating a lean and toned body is something that many people desire but all too often it gets lost under the label of “too busy” or any other excuse that people come up with to avoid being active. The result is that two thirds of the UK adult population are now classed as overweight or obese.

Exercise can also help to reduce stress, prevent depression, improve memory, and create better sleep patterns. It can improve your immune system, lower your risk of diabetes, heart disease and stroke to name but a few. It keeps your body strong and healthy and allows you to enjoy your life unencumbered by preventable illness and feelings of fatigue and lethargy. It is an essential part of your transition to a truly sustainable and healthy lifestyle.

When should I start exercising?

We would recommend that you start to incorporate exercise into your weekly regime from the beginning. The benefits that you will obtain are overwhelming. The sooner you make it part of your weekly routine the sooner you will feel these benefits and realise how powerful it can be, not only for your weight loss goals but to raise your confidence and improve your overall wellbeing. It will help you to think clearer and approach life with a new bounce in your step.

What exercise should I be doing?

The Paleo Diet and Fitness approach to exercise is about flexibility and it being adaptable to each person’s individual needs. This is the ethos that permeates throughout our entire approach to the Paleo lifestyle. We believe that it is the only approach that will work to create a truly sustainable and healthy lifestyle that can be maintained forever.

With this in mind we have created “Tabata Transformation” and “Introduction to Yoga” to compliment the Paleo diet and to help you achieve the most out of your Paleo journey. The programmes are flexible to meet your needs and provide a variety of movement and exercises.  The work outs can be completed in as little as 20 minutes and can be carried out at the gym or at home making it easy to slot into your hectic schedule.

Tabata Transformation is based upon high intensity interval training which has been shown to burn fat and improve your overall fitness much faster than traditional cardio exercise. The best part is it only requires a 20 minute work out. It is exhilarating and provides fantastic results in a short period of time. It includes compound, plyometric and bodyweight exercises along with resistance training to build strength and stamina. The Tabata programme encompasses all aspects of Paleo thinking when it comes to exercise and is the perfect accompaniment to your Paleo lifestyle.

Introduction to Yoga will teach you how to identify stress triggers and how to develop a mechanism for controlling stress and the impact that it can have on your everyday life. You will learn how to tackle the curve balls that life throws at us and how important relaxation is to achieving a healthy body and mind. The fact that it will also help you to lose weight and tone up makes Yoga essential for every hectic lifestyle.

Each of the exercise programmes is based on a 12 week programme to complement “Paleo: 12 Weeks to Change Your Life.” Incorporating exercise into your regime may seem quite daunting for those who have been inactive for a while. Do not worry; it will soon become second nature and you will be amazed at how good it makes you feel. Not only will it greatly assist in your weight loss goals but it will provide you with increased energy and a feeling of self-confidence and self-belief.

The important thing is to stop making excuses.
