What is Tabata?
Tabata workouts are based on short but intense bursts of exercise for 20 seconds followed by a 10 second rest period. The workout is split into sections each lasting approximately 4 minutes and incorporating 6-8 exercises. One full workout usually lasts no longer than 20 minutes. Although it may sound easy you need to put maximum effort (and then some!) for those 20 seconds. It is tough but you will be rewarded with the most amazing results.
Research indicates that a Tabata work out can burn up to 10 times as much as conventional cardio in a shorter period of time. This means that you can strip away body fat, increase your fitness levels and completely transform your body whilst only working out for only 20 minutes, 3 times per week. Combine with Paleo and you will be shocked at how fast you can reach your goals.
Sound to good to be true?
You may well be thinking that only having to exercise for 20 minutes in intervals of 20 seconds sounds like the easiest way of losing weight that you have come across. It is important to remember that Tabata is based on a high intensity version of interval training. This means that you must put your absolute maximum effort into every exercise for the full 20 seconds. If you feel like you could have done more at the end of the 20 seconds then you are not working hard enough!
In order to achieve the maximum results that Tabata can provide, you must ensure that you maintain the high intensity to the best of your ability throughout the whole work out. It is tough but incredibly effective and rewarding.
